Although only in his early thirties, Michael has almost two decades of experience performing at North Americas top airshows, having started in the business at age 18. Although Michael enjoys his reputation as a great aviator, he is also a dedicated professional with his fans and airshow promoters. With Michael, his show day is not complete until he has signed every last autograph. The most challenging and physically punishing out of control gyroscopic maneuvers are the show's foundation. In fact, Michael performs some of the most wild and complex tumbles that have not been duplicated by any other airshow pilot in the world today. Michael’s custom CAP 232 tumbles, flips, skids, and twists in such complex combinations that most spectators just watch in amazement. As a member of three US World Aerobatic Teams, Michael maneuvers his show stopping CAP 232 unlimited performance aerobatic aircraft with the characteristic precision demanded of top level competition flying that has made him a world renowned Aerobatic Pilot for over a decade. During this incredible display, Michael experiences up to + & - 9 G's during the performance and his airspeed varies from zero to over 275 miles per hour. With a Mike Goulian Airshow, the sky is NOT the limit! The Pilot Born and raised in Arlington, Massachusetts, Michael grew up in a flying family. His family owns and operates Executive Flyers Aviation, one of the oldest and largest flying schools in the Northeast, so it was only natural for Michael to learn to fly before he could drive a car. He focused on aerobatics with a passion, and by age 17 he won his first aerobatic title and performed in his first airshow. Michael established an aerobatic school within EFA (which he continues to run), and supplemented his income as a corporate jet pilot while working his way toward the top ranks of airshow display flying and competition aerobatics. Following a shower of regional titles he gained national recognition when at age 22 he became US National Champion in the Advanced Category. A year later he won the prestigious Fond du Lac Cup invitational competition and by 1992 he was the top ranked US male aerobatic pilot and Silver Medalist in the Unlimited Category, an achievement he repeated in 1993. In 1995 Mike reached the pinnacle of American aerobatics by becoming the US National Champion in the Unlimited Category. Not one to rest on his laurels, Mike has been a member of the 1994, 96, & 98 US Aerobatic Teams. Aerobatics has been generous to Michael and he feels a strong commitment to contribute to the development of the sport. He is active in the International Council of Airshows (ICAS) and the International Aerobatic Club. Mike was Chairman of the ICAS Aerobatic Competency Evaluator (ACE) committee where he guided his committee through the task of forming the guidelines by which airshow pilots are certified to perform at airshow altitudes. Michael is now honored to be on the ICAS Board of Directors. Most recently, Michael collaborated with the FAA in production of a stall & spin awareness video for general aviation pilots. Michael is co-author of a series of best-selling aerobatic training books published by McGraw Hill. Basic and Advanced Aerobatics have become the industry standard for aerobatic flight training manuals. Mike also served as prime consultant to Flight Unlimited, the revolutionary aerobatic flight simulation software program produced by Looking Glass Technologies, and has performed on the Public Broadcasting System's award winning NOVA program as well as ESPN, Speedvision, and Discovery Channel. Whenever he can take a break from flying, Mike enjoys skiing, mountain biking, ice hockey, and golf.
